![]() ![]() By featuring an arc centered on a hateful, previously unseen twin brother of Barry, The Flash would be offering an unnecessary retelling of season 3’s story. Presumably, Barry could stop Savitar by doing the same thing. The jealousy that festered within him is akin to the emotions that drove Cobalt Blue to villainy in DC Comics. In season one of The Flash, Eobard Thawne is defeated, and erased from existence, when his ancestor, Eddie Thawne, shoots himself. In the Arrowverse, Savitar was essentially a replica of Barry who resented the neglect he received from Team Flash. Making Eddie Thawne into Savitar keeps the drama very personal for Barry (which has typically been the case with these speedster villains), and it logically explains why The Speed God is so. With this knowledge, Malcolm transformed into Cobalt Blue by allowing his hatred to fuel the talisman and then kicked off his vendetta against Barry.Īlthough this differs from the origin given to Savitar in The Flash season 3, the core themes are the same. Previously, both Eddie Thawne and Hunter Zolomon were mirror reflections of Barry, in the sense that something awful happened to them and instead of pursuing a noble path as Barry did they. A chance to strike at Barry came when he discovered his adoptive parents’ connection to a blue talisman that thrives on negative emotions. After enduring an unpleasant and difficult childhood, Malcolm discovered Barry’s existence and became envious of the life his twin had as the Flash. Malcolm Thawne was accidentally separated from Barry at birth. It was explained in the comic books that Cobalt Blue a.k.a.
